Nine Letter Word

Privacy Policy

Last updated 3 October 2026

Nine Letter Word collects no personal information. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.

This policy covers the iPhone app Nine Letter Word, called Nine below, and this website.

What stays on your iPhone

Your guesses and your progress never leave your iPhone. They are checked on the device and are gone when you start another puzzle.

The app stores a few settings on the device, such as whether haptics are on, along with the app verification details described below. Deleting the app removes them.

What the app sends

The app asks Nine’s puzzle server for each puzzle. The request says which puzzle is wanted: a random one, or the nine letters you entered. Nothing about you is included.

Like every internet service, the server sees the IP address a request comes from. It is used for about a minute to limit how many requests one address can make, and is then forgotten. No logs of requests are kept.

App verification

The puzzle server only answers genuine copies of the app. To prove it is genuine, the app uses Apple’s App Attest service: your iPhone creates a random key for Nine and Apple confirms that it belongs to an unmodified copy of the app. The key is used only by Nine. It isn’t linked to your name, your Apple Account or any other app, and it can’t be used to identify your device elsewhere.

The app sends the key’s identifier with its puzzle requests, where it is also used for the request limit above. The server doesn’t keep it.
